Greenville's Concert Ladder Got Its Middle Rungs This Year

Greenville has had a big room for a long time. Bon Secours Wellness Arena lists a 15,500-capacity setup on North Academy Street, and the Peace Concert Hall seats 2,115 on South Main. The harder gap to fill was a room for a band that has outgrown a club but can't yet fill a seated hall, and for a crowd that wants to stand up with a drink in hand.

In 2026 that gap closed. The Peace Center opened two new rooms on its campus this year. On Oct. 16 the Greenville Journal reported that The Foundry at Judson Mill will get new operators on Jan. 1, 2027, and one of them already runs Radio Room. So the city now has a full set of rooms, sized in steps, and two of those steps are about to share a booker.

The Ladder, Room by Room

Here's how the main rooms stack up, using each venue's own figures or the most recent local reporting.

Room Where Capacity Format
The Mockingbird 330 S. Main St. 180 Seated listening room
Gunter Theatre 320 S. Main St. 439 with pit seating, 399 without Seated theater
Radio Room 28 Liberty Lane 500 Club
Coach Music Factory 310 S. Main St. 1,100 Standing only
The Foundry at Judson Mill 701 Easley Bridge Road 1,200 per October 2026 reporting Club
Peace Concert Hall 300 S. Main St. 2,115 Seated hall
Bon Secours Wellness Arena 650 N. Academy St. 15,500 Arena

Two rooms in that table didn't exist at the start of 2026. The Mockingbird opened Jan. 16 and 17 as a 180-seat listening room, with cabaret-style tables set around a semicircular stage. Coach Music Factory followed on Feb. 7, when G. Love & Special Sauce played the first show, and Fox Carolina reported that the opening show sold out.

Why the Peace Center Built a Room With No Seats

The Peace Center's first two halls are both proscenium stages. Coach Music Factory exists because some artists don't want that. CEO Megan Riegel explained the thinking to the Greenville Journal in January:

"Every once in a while we will get artists that don't want to play in a proscenium hall, which is what the (Peace Center) Concert Hall is and what the Gunter (Theatre) is. They want to be right there mixing with the crowd. The crowd wants to be right there mixing with the artists and holding a beer in their hand."

The building is the historic Roe Coach Factory. Its original brick walls and hardwood floors were kept. You can watch the stage from the ground floor or the mezzanine, and there are three full-service bars. Retractable glass garage doors behind the stage open onto an outdoor patio. It sits on Graham Plaza between the Concert Hall and the Gunter. That means one stretch of South Main now holds a 180-seat room, a 400-seat theater, a 1,100-person standing club and a 2,115-seat hall, all within a short walk of each other.

Radio Room Took Three Moves to Reach 500

The club rung got bigger over a longer stretch. Radio Room opened at 2845 N. Pleasantburg Drive, moved to 110 Poinsett Highway in the summer of 2017, and is now on its third address at 28 Liberty Lane. The Post and Courier described the first room as seating 65. The Liberty Lane room opened July 30, 2024. A year later the Greenville Journal reported it held around 500 people, more than double the previous location, which let the club book bigger acts.

Going from 65 to 500 is the same climb a touring band makes, and Radio Room's own past-acts list shows it. That list includes 49 Winchester, Red Clay Strays, Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Flipturn. 49 Winchester went on to headline The Foundry on Feb. 16, 2024, in a room the Greenville Journal described then as holding 1,000.

January Puts Two Rungs Under One Booker

That climb is what the Foundry deal is built on. A press release covered by the Greenville Journal on Oct. 16 said Radio Room co-owner and booker Wes Gilliam and John Peters of Mass Concerts, one of the largest independent concert promoters in the country, take over operations of The Foundry at Judson Mill on Jan. 1, 2027. Peters spelled out the reasoning in that release:

"Wesley has done a great job in Greenville operating the 500-capacity Radio Room, and The Foundry will be the next step in the market for many artists."

The Foundry has gone through its own changes at Judson Mill, the former textile mill on Easley Bridge Road that is now a mixed-use district. It was set to open in March 2022 as Cowboy Up Nightlife, a 10,000-square-foot venue, and was renamed The Foundry with a planned reopening on Jan. 6, 2023. The October report puts its capacity at 1,200 and lists past headliners including Marcus King, 49 Winchester and Mt. Joy. Gilliam and Peters plan to renovate and upgrade the space. Gilliam will book roughly 10 acts a month there while keeping the venue's private events and Wednesday and Saturday line dancing. Radio Room will still host at least 20 shows a month.

Starting in January, a band that sells out Liberty Lane can move up to a room more than twice as big without changing who books it. Across town, Coach Music Factory fills a similar size bracket downtown under the Peace Center. Greenville now has two standing rooms of 1,000-plus, run by different operators in different parts of the city.

The Rung Still Under Construction

One more room is planned, but it isn't on a calendar yet. Trueline, at 401 Rhett Street in the West End, is planned as a 1,700-capacity main hall with a 400-capacity smaller room and a private members club. In April, Fox Carolina reported an early-2027 opening target. The same report said the project was in the final stages of financing and that two mechanic's liens had been filed that month. The Greenville News reported on April 27 that the debt had to be resolved before shows could be scheduled. Trueline's events page currently lists no shows. For this fall and winter, the biggest standing room in town is The Foundry at 1,200.

Using the Whole Ladder Before New Year's

These dates come from each venue's own calendar. Bookings can change, so check the venue's page before you buy tickets.

Saturday, Oct. 24. Keller Williams plays Coach Music Factory. Next door at The Mockingbird, Mandy Barnett sings Patsy Cline. That's two shows of very different sizes on the same block of South Main.

Saturday, Oct. 31. Big Something plays Halloween night at Coach Music Factory.

Nov. 4 through 7. The Mockingbird has a run of shows: Brad Goodall on Nov. 4, the BELLES Songs & Stories Tour on Nov. 6 and John R. Miller on Nov. 7.

Wednesday, Nov. 11. Two club rooms book the same night. Christone "Kingfish" Ingram plays Radio Room, and Greensky Bluegrass plays Coach Music Factory.

Thursday, Nov. 12. Pecos & The Rooftops play The Foundry.

Saturday, Nov. 14. An Evening with Spafford is at Radio Room, and Sons of Town Hall play The Mockingbird.

Friday, Nov. 20. Winyah plays The Foundry. The same night, Song Sessions opens a two-night run at The Mockingbird, with Maia Sharp joined by Kim Richey and Matraca Berg on Nov. 20 and 21.

Dec. 16 through 19. Filth plays Radio Room on Dec. 16. Song Sessions comes back to The Mockingbird on Dec. 18 and 19, when Maia Sharp hosts David Wilcox and Edwin McCain.

Thursday, Dec. 31. Blade Rave, an 18+ show, closes out the year at Radio Room. It's also the last night before the Foundry handover takes effect.

Pres and Jess follow these changes because a new venue or a renovated mill building can change how a whole street works on a Friday night. If you own near South Main, Liberty Lane or Judson Mill and want to know how this year's changes might affect your home's value, Team Inglee can walk you through it with a free home valuation. We'll keep it as practical as a night out on Main.
